our nation's capital - the land of fireworks and porno...

Saturday June 24 2006

We’ve just rolled into Canberra and are taking a moment to unwind in front of some bad daytime TV and the soccer before heading off for the show. I was still in the car on the phone when Karl opened the door to motel room and i swear i could already smell that ‘clean’ motel room smell. What is that?! Best not think about it or what other smells they are trying to disguise i guess…
Last night in Sydney was loads of fun. It was good to be back at the Hoey, and the other bands - Seaworthy and Grand Salvo - were both great. We had a good kick on after the show with our Sydney buddies, yet woke up suprisingly unscathed from the late night. We even had a decent truckstop breakfast (baked beans on toast for me). The food gods have smiled on up for this tour.
The last couple of days included 2 of my favourite drives in Australia.. Sydney/Newcastle with the amazing hill cuttings all along the highway as the roads weaves up and down. And the above picture is of Lake George which on the Road from Sydney to Canberra. Sometimes there is a bit of water there, but usually it’s just this big surreal paddock with sheep and cows roaming around. I’ve heard a myth that this lake somehow links up with New Zealand in some underground channel. We joked about the lucky farmer over there who has animals magically appearing everyday.
Hopefully Turbo and his crew show up tonight so we can give this town another run for its money after the show. We’ll see. It’s always a fun night here anyway, so an looking forward to it.
