dog + tuckerbox = good

Long highway drives do funny things to your brain.. I just caught myself wondering how far it is from here to the moon, and whether we have driven the same distance over the years on this solitary highway, the mighty Hume. I reckon we must have done at least 10 round trips which would equal the best part of 20,000kms. Just as well i’ve got a few more hours to ponder that. The drive north is always quicker as the only stop we ever make is at ‘the dog on the tuckerbox’ for a ‘tucker burger’, and it arrives an hour after the half way point. On the way home it comes that bit too soon.
Touring so often comes down to food in my mind. Karl gets great amusement from the fact that i seem to piece together our years of travels by recollecting the various meals along the way. There have been so many. I’ve had tears in my eyes in italy cause the food is so good. The Germans and Dutch do breakfasts well, but not much else as with the Brits.. Although they are very different. Cheeses and chocolate sprinkles on heavy breads on the continent, the greasiest of eggs and beans on the the thinnest slices of white bread on the other side of the channel. The USA proved to be a battle ground on the culinary front with the only things worth mentioning being the mexican food in the south and ‘birthday cake’ flavoured blue bell icecream in dallas.
Australia has much great food i must admit, but after 5 hours in the commodore nothing is quite as sweet as a tuckerburger. 36kms to go i’m told. Godspeed!
